Ali heads CLC’s legal advisory practice and has over 15 years of experience in advising domestic and international clients on a broad range of matters including regulatory compliance, human rights, corporate governance, and legislative frameworks in Pakistan. He is considered an expert in advising on matters pertaining to legislative drafting, having advised both government and private clients on key legislative initiatives. Some of his notable accomplishments in this field include finalising legislation regarding the conservation of heritage sites, youth and sports development, wildlife conservation, and accountability laws. 

Ali has previously served as a legislative fellow in the U.S. Department of State, as a member and legal advisor for the Public Affairs Unit under the Chief Minister of Punjab, and legal consultant of the Punjab Solicitor’s Department. He is also serving as an Independent Director on the Boards of a public sector company and a prominent listed company. 

Along with his legal practice, Ali is a visiting faculty member at Pakistan College of Law where he teaches corporate governance, and has been involved with the training of judges at the Punjab Judicial Academy.

  • Drafted legal feasibility reports for a prominent Turkish corporation;

  • Conducted a legal due diligence report for the establishment of a Software Technology Park in Pakistan;

  • Prepared a regulatory mapping report on the energy sector in Pakistan to revamp a major electric supply company;

  • Advised a major Swedish company on the development of occupational health and safety and environmental compliance in Pakistan;

  • Finalised legislation on wildlife conservation in Pakistan;

  • Comprehensively advised a major corporation based in the Netherlands on Pakistan’s labour law regime;

  • Drafted the legislative framework for the local government landscape in Pakistan for United States Institute for Peace; 

  • Supported an IPP in raising a dispute over a sovereign guarantee;

  • Served as the national legal consultant for the International Labour Organization.
